Milestone Reached: Roofing Completed at EDM Rosotta Junior Secondary School
ROSOTTA VILLAGE, KARENE DISTRICT – June 2024 – Evangelism Discipleship Missions (EDM) is pleased to announce a significant construction milestone: the zinc roofing of the Rosotta Junior Secondary School has been fully installed, securing the building against the weather.
The roofing completion marks the end of the structural phase and the beginning of the interior completion stage for this much-anticipated community project. Once finished, the school will provide accessible, quality junior secondary education to over 120 children in Rosotta and surrounding villages, eliminating the long and often dangerous daily walk they currently face.
"This roof represents more than shelter; it's a shield for the future of our children's education," said Alpha Dumbuya, EDM's Head of Projects in Sierra Leone. "With the structure now protected, our focus shifts to completing the interiors—classrooms, offices, water, and sanitation—to make this a fully functional learning environment."
Project Background
The Rosotta Junior Secondary School addresses a critical gap in local education. The community has had a primary school for decades, but no local junior secondary school, forcing children to travel great distances or drop out after primary education. EDM, responding to community advocacy, began construction in early 2024.
Next Steps
With the roofing complete, attention now turns to the final phase:
Installation of ceilings, doors, windows, and electrical fittings.
. Construction of a gender-separated sanitation block and a clean water borehole.
. Furnishing classrooms with desks, chairs, and learning materials.
. The project is on track for completion in the coming months, pending the necessary funding for these final components.
